In jaw joint disorders, the person experiences many symptoms such as jaw, head, neck and ear pain, restriction in opening and closing the mouth, and noise coming from the joint. We can prevent joint disorders thanks to the ‘Splint Treatments’ we apply in the orthodontics department of our clinic.
Occlusal splint appliances are transparent and practical appliances used in cases such as joint irregularity, joint inflammation, clenching, teeth grinding and chewing muscle hypertonia. It aims to reduce complaints by placing the jaw joint in its correct position in the joint cavity. Once the joint is positioned in its correct place, it becomes suitable for creating ideal dental closing relationships with orthodontic treatment. After splint treatment, orthodontic treatment must be applied for correct tooth closing relationships.
What kind of device is a joint splint? How is it used?
Ekrem splint is a transparent, invisible 3-4 mm thick appliance that is placed on the teeth in a single jaw, either in the upper or lower jaw. In our clinic, joint splints are produced using the 3D digital measurement method, completely personalized and compatible with the teeth and gums, through a digital laboratory. Made from monochrome material, this splint is very lightweight and easy to clean.
The indication for correct use of the joint wipe is 24 hours a day. The joint makes the most movement while eating, so the splint should be in the mouth during food consumption.
What is the use of clear plate treatments in jaw joint disorders?
Pain in the jaw and face, sounds coming from the floor while eating and when opening and closing the mouth are usually caused by malocclusion of the teeth. When dental malocclusions are corrected with orthodontic treatment, rehabilitation is also provided in the jaw joint. However, due to its existing thickness, transparent plaques remove the jaw joint from the joint cavity to some extent, thus eliminating the pressure and trauma that occurs during the day. Studies have shown that joint disorders in patients receiving transparent plate treatment decrease day by day, and a permanent correction is achieved thanks to the correct tooth closing relationships obtained as a result of the treatment.
