Orthodontic treatments performed without surgery, to the extent permitted by the skeleton, jaws and teeth, in cases requiring jaw surgery such as open bite in adult patients, positioning of the lower jaw forward, positioning the upper jaw backwards or the lower jaw being too far back, are called ‘Camouflage Treatments’.
When the upper jaw is positioned behind and/or the lower jaw is positioned forward, reverse/cross bite occurs in the incisors in the front area. Dental correction of this disorder includes camouflage treatment. If the lower jaw is too far back and the upper incisors are too protruding, dental camouflage treatments also include hiding the lower jaw backwardness by placing the protruding incisors in their correct positions.
Nowadays, thanks to Transparent Plaque Technology, we can perform treatments by pushing the teeth backwards (distalization method), which has enabled us to achieve significant success in camouflage treatments. Especially in cases where there is a severe ‘open bite’ in the anterior region, camouflage treatments are very fast and comfortable with the transparent plate method.
Open Bite Treatment
The situation where there is an opening between the front teeth due to various etiological reasons during childhood is called Open Bite. The only way to correct this disorder in an adult is by burying the back teeth into the jawbone. Transparent aligners are very successful in recessing the back teeth into the jawbone. Sometimes, additional mechanics such as orthodontic mini screws and elastics are used to achieve this treatment result in a much shorter time than expected. This treatment, which we perform only through dental correction without making any corrections to the jaw skeleton, is called camouflage treatment.
